GOP Casts B.R.I.C.K. In Bakersfield, CA

Example
David Smothers(l) and Kieth Wolaridge(r)

For anyone who has ever started a Black Republican Organization, you know it can be dificult enough in areas that have a large Black population. Black Republicans in the County of Kern is and organization that is making it happen in an area of California where the African American numbers are small but climbing.

The Bakersfield Californian Reports the following:

African-Americans who are Republicans take it on the chin a whole lot," said Smothers, a 35-year-old educational psychologist. "Some feel safer voting Republican and keeping it to themselves."

So to let people know black Republicanism is no oxymoron, Smothers and Wolaridge have helped form Black Republicans in the County of Kern.

BRICK, a 1-year-old chapter of a statewide organization, wants to promote the GOP agenda, find qualified blacks to run for local office and through education, reverse some of the ills plaguing the black community.

I know Kieth personally. And I know that he doen't do anything half way. I am sure that we can expect big things from BRICK.
