Dangerous Precedent
There has to be some grand reasoning - besides the constitutional argument - that is having the Republican led House openly fueding with their President. Maybe they are anticipating a Democratic administration in 2008, thus their reluctance to cede that much power to the Executive branch. It's the only thing that makes sense to me. Jefferson's scandal and the resignation of Democrat Allan Mollohan from the Ethics committee under a cloud, neutralizes the "culture of corruption" election strategy of the Democrats. Hastert and others being vehement in their indignation of the seizure of documents from Jefferson's office, only foments in a cynical public's mind that politicians will protect their own.
